British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has sacked United States ambassador Peter Mandelson following intense scrutiny over his ties with notorious sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.

Newly released documents from US lawmakers have shed fresh light on the relationship between Epstein and Mr Mandelson, who's friendship had been publicly known for decades.

Emails sent by the former Labour minister to the disgraced financier were first obtained by Bloomberg on Monday, including one in which he told Epstein "your friends stay with you and love you" just as the sex trafficker was about to jailed for soliciting prostitution from someone aged under 18.
