Two suspended police officers are now set to face court over the death of a man who died after being arrested in July last year.

The North West Metro Region officers, A 29-year-old male constable and a 45-year-old male sergeant, have been charged with manslaughter on Thursday, Victoria Police said in a statement.

It comes after a 35-year-old man, who has been identified as Luke Briggs, died in hospital eight days after his arrest in the early hours of July 15, 2024.

Briggs had been arrested in a convivence store carpark on the corner of Heaths and Tarneit Roads in the south-west Melbourne suburb of Hoppers Crossing.

The two charged officers were bailed and are both set to appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on September 12.
