Australian Olympic legend Jess Fox is “absolutely devastated" she will not be competing at the upcoming Slalom World Championships in her hometown of Penrith.

Ms Fox, who has won three Olympic gold medals, underwent major surgery last month to remove a tumour from her left kidney and experienced ongoing complications as a result.

She recently was forced to pull out of the two last rounds of the European World Cup, after claiming three gold medals in the first three rounds in Spain, France and Czechia.

However, in an emotional recording posted to social media on Thursday, the 31-year-old announced she would be withdrawing from the upcoming Canoe Slalom World Championship - which was due to begin on September 29 - due to ill health.
