Thomas Evans , a former CNN executive, has been named the next editor in chief of NPR .
Evans will oversee the global newsroom, having most recently served as managing editor of editorial review at NPR.
Edith Chapin, who has led the newsroom since 2022, announced during the summer that she planned to step down as editor in chief.
Evans joined NPR in 2024, and in his previous role he led an “editorial enhancements” program that included an independent internal editorial review of content. He previously was at CNN, where he was vice president and London bureau chief for the past eight years.
In a statement, Evans said that NPR’s “value is built on the finest journalists in the nation, and I am proud to have been asked to lead this newsroom at this crucial time as we continue to serve
