PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence police detectives are investigating a reported stabbing incident that occurred just after midnight Thursday.

According to Providence City Hall Director of Communications Josh Estrella, Providence police responded to the area of Portland Street at approximately 12:22 a.m. for a report of a stabbing.

Arriving officers were told that the caller was approached by a male who said he had been stabbed in the arm.

Officers were able locate the individual in the area of Friendship Street and Pearl Street with a laceration on his right arm, according to Estrella.

The victim told police that the stabbing incident occurred on Broad Street.

According to his account, a female exited her vehicle on Broad Street, stabbed him in the arm, and then fled the scene.
