WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump said Thursday he will posthumously award conservative activist Charlie Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom, a day after Kirk was shot and killed during an event at Utah Valley University.
Speaking at a Pentagon memorial event marking the anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks, Trump praised Kirk as “a giant of his generation, a champion of liberty and an inspiration to millions and millions of people,” according to ABC News.
“We miss him greatly, yet I have no doubt that Charlie’s voice and courage put into the hearts of countless people, especially young people, will live on,” Trump said.
