AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Students were kept in classrooms Thursday while authorities searched for a handgun at Midland Valley High School.

Students remained in their classrooms and normal instruction continued during the search.

Child killed while waiting for school bus in Screven County

A young child was killed while waiting for the school bus this morning in Screven County, according to officials.

“The student reported to have brought a handgun was quickly identified, searched, and does not have the weapon on their person,” the school district said around 11:30 a.m.

Administrators and law enforcement officers were interviewing this student and others for information and continued with a search, according to the school district.
