IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - “Sometimes harm reduction doesn’t look the way we all want it to look.”

That’s part of the message the Shelter House is sharing, as they prepare to meet inspectors for the city of Iowa City, and told people living in a tent encampment on their property they must move.

The Shelter House released a letter on Wednesday, September 10, explaining how the encampment came to be.

They said the first tent appeared in March when the Winter Shelter closed for the season. Then others arrived when things like fences were put up in other places they had been sleeping, or greenery had been removed. And with people close by, street outreach members of Shelter House worked with them.
