SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - Over the summer, the state of Iowa offered a new program called “Healthy Kids Iowa.”

It provided food to students throughout June, July, and August, things like fruits, vegetables, dairy items, grains, and proteins.

The Healthy Kids Iowa Pilot Program finished on Aug. 31, and the state says an evaluation is coming soon. But we asked the Food Bank of Siouxland how this new program went.

They served about 9,000 boxes of food to 7,200 kids across the 8 counties in Iowa that the Food Bank serves.

The Food Bank served just shy of 300,000 pounds of food over June, July, and August. But with any new program comes challenges.
