At 8:46 a.m. on Sept. 11, a bell tolled inside Erie’s Blasco Memorial Library — the first of two solemn chimes that marked the moments hijacked planes struck the Twin Towers in 2001.
The chimes were a part of Erie County’s annual 9/11 memorial service inside the library’s H.O. Hirt Auditorium, where elected officials, first responders, servicemembers and residents came together to honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost — and the courage of those who rushed to help.
