HOWLAND, Ohio (WKBN) -- Howland Township will be celebrating enhancements to Orwig Park this weekend.
A rededication ceremony is scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday at the park gazebo on East Market Street.
It will commemorate upgrades to the park, including a new roof on the gazebo, benches, picnic tables, a watering station, landscaping and upgraded lighting and electrical outlets.
Family members of the late Richard Orwig, whom the park is named after, will be in attendance.
According to Dr. James Lapolla, a Howland Township trustee, Orwig was a pillar of the community.
"We used to call him Mr. Howland, and so he was always well respected," Dr. Lapolla said. "He helped start Howland Athletic Club, the little league baseball... he was on the school board, besides being a trustee."
