TULARE COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A 23-year-old man from Tipton was convicted of first-degree murder in connection with a 2023 shooting in Tulare.

Officials say that around 2 a.m. on July 13, 2023, James Myron Mitchell of Tipton messaged a man to come outside a Tulare home before shooting him with a rifle from about 90 feet away. The killing was caught on nearby surveillance cameras.

After the shooting, officials say Mitchell fled the area and evaded authorities for nearly six months. He was arrested by U.S. Marshals in early January 2024 near Chattanooga, Tennessee, and later extradited to California in April of that year.
