SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - Spirit of Springfield’s annual 9/11 remembrance ceremony was held at Riverfront Park in Springfield. Several local leaders and dozens of community members coming out to tonight’s ceremony which began here at Riverfront Park at 6 p.m.

The program began with emergency services equipment rolling out over the Memorial Bridge to the park, those services included the Springfield Police and Fire departments, American Medical Response, and the Hampden County Sheriff’s Office.

The beginning is then followed by the tolling of the fire bell, and the laying of a wreath.

The Springfield Police Department then concluded the program with a rifle salute and the playing of taps.

By the end, guests saw the silhouette of the World Trade Center artifact cast the shadow of the
