LAWRENCEVILLE, PA (WENY) -- The 24th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks was honored locally in a number of ways on Thursday.

Members of the Lawrenceville, Tioga and Elkland volunteer fire departments embarked on a memorial walk to mark the day. They walked 9.11 miles, from the Lawrenceville Fire Department, to the Tioga Memorial Park in Tioga. The walk was expected to take about four hours to complete.

This is the fifth year the department has taken on the challenge, meant to pay tribute to the 343 firefighters who lost their lives on 9/11, and the many in the years following due to illness.
