PISCATAQUIS COUNTY, Maine — Baxter State Park law enforcement rangers are asking the public for help after the Katahdin summit sign was vandalized.

Rangers said Thursday on social media the letters "H.M." and "J.M." were carved into the center of the sign. Officials are seeking information from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or seen anyone taking credit on social media.

Rangers encouraged the individuals responsible to come forward and said they appreciate any assistance from the public.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Baxter State Park Headquarters at 207-723-5140, seven days a week between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
