Donald Trump Jr. has shared the heartbreaking moment he tried to call Charlie Kirk’s wife in the aftermath of her husband's horrific assassination.

Kirk, 31, was shot while he was speaking at an event at Utah Valley University, just moments after being asked about how many transgender Americans had been mass shooters over the last 10 years.

Speaking to Fox News host Sean Hannity, Trump Jr. said he tried to call Kir's wife Erica while her husband was in hospital and “possibly stable”, as early reports said the conservative speaker still had a pulse.

“She actually called us back, and for some reason we just saw the missed call, but it didn't actually ring. By the time we noticed that and got back we had heard the news,” he said.
