Levi Coovert doesn't think Charlie Kirk was a good person.

But when the far-right commentator was shot in the neck and killed, Coovert, a student journalist, felt a wave of grief for the man he once debated publicly.

Kirk — a 31-year-old podcaster, right-wing organizer and close ally of U.S. President Donald Trump — was killed on Wednesday during an appearance at Utah Valley University. He was in the midst of his American Comeback college tour, during which he would challenge liberal-minded students to debate him for an online segment called "Prove Me Wrong."
