An incident is unfolding on a busy Edinburgh city centre road after an ambulance appears to have collided with a traffic light.

The incident appears to have taken place around 5pm on Friday, September 12 on Lothian Road in front of Exchange Plaza.

Photos from the scene show an ambulance halted in the middle of the road with a traffic light toppled next to it.

Police officers appear to be on the scene, with vehicles parked in front of and behind the stuck ambulance.

Other images show the fire trucks in attendance, with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirming they were on the scene.

The road is reportedly blocked in both directions near the Picture House, although the left turns into and out of West Approach Road remain open.
