Gabriel Thomas remembers exactly where he was when the planes hit the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.

Thomas, who was 11 and a sixth grader at Kings Mountain Middle School, said that he woke up that morning "not feeling right."

"Back then, I only knew how to describe it as an upset stomach," he said.

Thomas, who told his story at a Kings Mountain ceremony commemorating 9/11, went home from school early that day, and he was watching television with his grandparents when breaking news about the terrorist attack began playing.

"It seemed like only seconds later as they were reporting, my grandpa pointed at the TV and said, 'What's that?'" Thomas said. "He noticed a small dot on the screen apparently continuing to get bigger."
