WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) - Students at Jefferson Community College were able to receive free food on Friday.
Food drives are held by the campus food pantry several times a year as a way to make sure that students are well taken care of and to spread awareness about the pantry itself.
Volunteers in the pantry say that they see a lot of students in need, but some feel embarrassed receiving the free food.
Drives like this are meant to show that the pantry is there for everyone.
“We did a lot of really successful drives during covid, but now we have fully online students, we have commuter students, and unless they know that we exist, they might be relying on their hometown pantries. But we are there in case they need a backup situation,” said Jess Leigh, food pantry team lead.
