NIANTIC, CT (WFSB) - Giving back to those who gave their service.

It was a memorable day on the water for a group of veterans in Niantic this week.

For them, nothing beats a day on the water, with big fish to boot.

“Doing this man? It’s a bucket list thing,” said Kenneth Hardy, an Army veteran.

For Army vets Hardy, Edward Jones, and Normand Durand, a day away from their apartments at the Rocky Hill Veterans Home is a treat.

“I really enjoyed my time, I thought it was very interesting,” Durand said. “I got to see a lot of the world and do a lot of stuff my friends never got to do.”

A donated bus took the group to Niantic to a hero’s welcome aboard a Blackhawk helicopter.
