CHARLOTTE, Mich. (WLNS) -- A girl with Down syndrome from Charlotte, Michigan was featured last week on the jumbo screen in Times Square as part of a campaign highlighting the importance of visibility within the disabled community.

Susan Williams and her daughter, Carly Skogard, say Carly's photo was selected by the National Down Syndrome Society from hundreds of submissions. The image appeared on the Jumbotron in Times Square during the organization's annual event.

“We submitted her photo, and it was one of 500 chosen to represent the NDSS this year on the Jumbotron at Times Square,” Williams said.

Although the family could not attend the event in person, Williams said it was an honor to be chosen. "We definitely did get to celebrate at home," she said. "We were jumping around and yell
