COLUMBUS, Ohio — Teenagers from high schools across Columbus swapped the classroom for a youth summit Friday at the Linden Community Center, hosted by the Columbus Division of Police, to learn about safety in their communities and opportunities for their future.

Teens also learned about internet safety and how to stay out of trouble.

In one session, students listened to Shawn Foxx share how gun violence impacted his life.

Foxx was 23-years-old when he was shot in the Short North and left paralyzed.

“As a kid, I experienced a lot of gun violence growing up. I was even part of a gang myself and wanted to see myself make better choices so I didn’t wind up dead or in jail like some of my friends and family — that led me to go a different route,” Foxx said.
