BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WMBD) -- The local group Friends of the Constitution Trail is asking legislators to help fill the funding gap after a grant was withdrawn earlier this week.

During a McLean County Board Meeting on Thursday, District 8 Board Member Lea Cline said that the U.S. Department of Transportation has withdrawn its $675,000 BUILD Raise Grant that was awarded to the county in 2024.

The money would have been for the preliminary engineering for the final nine miles of the Route 66 bike trail. Cline said the Transportation Department told the county that the grant no longer aligned with its priorities.
