ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A suspect has been arrested nearly 14 years after the body of a missing 17-year-old boy was found, according to the Newnan Police Department.

Scotty Smith faces charges of felony murder, aggravated assault, concealing the death of another, tampering with evidence and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

On the morning of Oct. 16, 2011, 17-year-old Blake Chappell left his girlfriend’s home off Mary Freeman Road in Newnan. He planned to walk to a friend’s house, but he never arrived and was reported missing, police said.

Chappell’s body was found two months later, spurring a homicide investigation. The case went cold for years — until investigators recently identified Smith as a person of interest.
