AVON, Connecticut — Last month, a new union formed in Avon, at the Avon Place Apartments, after two-thirds of residents decided to band together in demand of better living conditions.

The Avon Place Tenants Union is the first tenants union in the Farmington Valley.

On Friday, more than a dozen members of the union met to give their biggest update so far on negotiations with the building owner. They came out in matching t-shirts that read "divided we beg, united we bargain."

"It used to be a really great place to live, and now the buildings are falling in disrepair," resident and union member Diyana Miryala said.

She's lived in the apartment complex for about 10 years and said she moved in for the amenities, like the pool, which have now been closed for years.
