KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - National Women in Law Enforcement Day is a time support those who are in the field and to get more women interested in law enforcement.

It’s been more than 10 years since Det. Ashley Wilson put on her uniform for the Blount County Sheriff’s Office. It’s something she knew she always wanted to do.

“There was just something I liked with helping the community, just helping. I guess not really community as a young kid, but helping always,” Wilson said. “I just knew that that’s what I wanted to do.”

She loves what she does, and she isn’t the only one.

Knoxville Police Department Sgt. Kristen Cox found her passion after first striving to be a fashion designer.
