ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A blighted building in DeKalb County was demolished Friday morning.

Neighbors said they’ve complained about the crime in the closed salon building on Old Wesley Chapel Road for more than five years, and they are glad to see it go.

Like Nicole Horton, who was all smiles.

“I’ve never seen it occupied. I’ve only seen the strays come in and out,” said Horton.

Horton owns Randolph’s Early Learning Academy right next door and said the blighted building is bad for business.

“One of the biggest things that I’ve heard is what’s next door? And what’s that,” said Horton.

DeKalb County officials said the former salon has been empty since 2019 — except for squatters who were selling and using drugs, engaging in sex crimes and assaults and lighting fires.
