ST PAUL, Minn. — If you’ve been to Raspberry Island, you’ve probably noticed new creatures taking over.

“We’re now in the final six weeks of the exhibit,” said Minnesota Latino Museum Executive Director Aaron Johnson-Ortiz.

The exhibit is called " Alebrijes : Keepers of the Island .” Johnson-Ortiz said Alebrijes are Mexican folk art. The artists who installed all of them on the island traveled from Mexico City.

“Any Alebrijes is a combination of animals with many different colors,” Johnson-Ortiz said.

The exhibit opened at the start of summer and will close at the end of October, so they’ll be on display during Hispanic Heritage Month.

“This upcoming month is very important for us to celebrate our heritage,” he said. “So, the beginning date of Latino Heritage Month is significant
