SOUTH BEND, Ind. (KBTX) - In September of 2014, college football had just begun its first season of the College Football Playoff era. Jimbo Fisher’s Florida State football team was the reigning BCS national champions.
Most notably, non-graduate players who transferred that season had to sit out a year before they could be eligible to play for their new schools and paying players in any form was highly against NCAA rules. (Just ask Johnny Manziel).
On September 25, 2014, then A&M athletic director Eric Hyman issued a press release announcing a future home-and-home matchup between the Aggies and Notre Dame, to be played in 2024 and 2025. Now, 11 years later, that northern migration of maroon is finally taking place, Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
