CHICO, Calif. — Chico Police arrested on Tuesday in connection with the downtown bicycle theft that occurred on September 4.

According to Chico Police, officers investigated a report of a stolen bicycle on September 4. The suspect reportedly assaulted the victim before taking the bicycle. While one officer interviewed the victim, others searched for the suspect and the bicycle. A citizen later found the bicycle in the plaza and flagged down an officer, allowing the bicycle to be returned to the victim.

Police officials say that during the investigation, police gathered surveillance footage that showed the theft and assisted in identifying the suspect. On Tuesday, an officer on patrol spotted the suspect, 30-year-old Jonah Girard, still wearing the same clothes from the incident.
