JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WTAJ) — Local firefighters and residents took over 2,200 steps to pay tribute to the firefighters and other first responders who were on scene during the attacks on Sept. 11.

The inaugural event, held at 1st Summit Arena by Bold Athletics, saw 80 people sign up for the challenge. With each step they took, they recall and recount the efforts made by those heroes.

"It's a memory of what they did, and hopefully we can bring memory and honor to that," Travis Beres, a firefighter at Mountain Top Fire Company in Sandy Ridge.

Firefighters across the country have been seen participating in such events. The climb simulates the efforts that first responders dealt with when climbing the World Trade Center in 2001.
