MUSKEGON, Mich. (WOOD) — Kids’ Food Basket is ready to open its new building in Muskegon, a move years in the making that will allow the organization to provide more food to children in need.

It nonprofit on Friday celebrated with the inaugural Brunch on Barclay, a fundraiser that gave the community a peek at the new facility.

"Really, it’s been about a four-year process" to open the new site, Kids' Food Basket Vice President of Programming Austin Roelofs said.

Kid’s Food Basket serves 62 elementary schools in four counties. Organizers say need is growing.

"If you’ve been to the grocery store, you know that food prices are continuing to rise. And there is some uncertainty on the federal and state levels for benefits that families have received for a number of years," Roelofs said. "So
