AUSTIN — UTEP's best shot against the superior talent of No. 7 Texas never figured to be enough to win, but it was more than the Longhorns likely expected to face as Texas finally pulled away for a 27-10 victory .

UTEP was within 7-3 in the final seconds of the first half before Texas punched in a short field with a 5-yard scramble from Arch Manning, who crossed the end zone with 1 second left in the second quarter to put the Longhorns up 14-3.

That was plenty against a Miner offense that struggled all day against Texas, but UTEP's defense was inspired had the sellout crowd booing Manning. Manning at one point threw 10 consecutive incompletions.
