A new estate in fields behind a busy Leicestershire village road has been rejected by councillors, with one objector calling the proposals “deeply unsafe”. Maruti Developments wanted to build 58 homes on land off Newbold Road in Barlestone, and were set to bulldoze an existing house to provide access to the site.
But councillors voted to turn down the application at the latest meeting of Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council’s (HBBC) planning committee. Several members expressed concern over traffic safety while also voicing disappointment over the attempt to build on land that wasn’t included in Barlestone’s neighbourhood plan.
