The Cincinnati Bengals are 2-0, but the road ahead is suddenly daunting.
Joe Burrow suffered a toe injury in their Week 2 victory, and ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Monday that the star quarterback will need surgery.
The procedure will keep Burrow out for a minimum of three months, meaning the earliest he could return is mid-December. That could potentially line him up to return in Week 16 (Dec. 21) against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday Night Football .
Burrow was injured midway through the second quarter on Sunday when Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Arik Armstead sacked him. He limped off before falling to the ground, getting help back to the medical tent and then eventually the locker room.
Burrow was later ruled out and never returned to the sideline.
