As the increasingly soggy weather kicks in, a simple bowl of salt can be key to keeping condensation and damp at bay.

But to get rid of another seasonal issue, Iwan Carrington shared on Stacey Solomon’s Sort Your Life Out, you’ll need a different cupboard staple.

“Wipe a little bit of this around your window frames,” he advised on the show while holding the skin of the fruit.

The waste product, he said, could help to repel spiders, which appear most often in our homes from mid-August to mid-October.

As Carrington put it, bugs and spiders “really don’t like” the pungent smell of the oil held in orange skins.

Country Living Magazine writes that spiders actually “hate all citrus scents”, meaning limes and lemons ought to do the job just as well.
