ELYRIA, Ohio — A 58-year-old woman was fatally struck Monday morning while crossing an intersection in Elyria , police said.

According to a release from the Elyria Police Department, officers responded at around 6:30 a.m. to the intersection of State Route 57 and Cleveland Street, where a Dodge Charger hit the pedestrian in the north crosswalk.

The car, driven by a 22-year-old man, was traveling east on Cleveland Street and turning north onto Route 57 when the crash occurred.

The woman was taken to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead. Her name has not been released.

Police said alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
