ELYRIA, Ohio (WJW) - The Elyria Police Department is investigating after a woman was killed while crossing the street early Monday morning.

According to Elyria police, the deadly accident happened around 6:30 a.m. in the intersection of State Route 57 and Cleveland Street.

According to a preliminary investigation, a 22-year-old man driving a 2010 Dodge Charger was turning onto State Route 57 when he struck a pedestrian in the north crosswalk.

The pedestrian, a 58-year-old woman, was taken to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash.
