MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Madison firefighters discovered a fire at a car dealership while on the way to another call, the Madison Fire Department announced Monday.

MFD said Engine Company 6 was heading out to an emergency call when they noticed heavy smoke approximately a block from their station on Fish Hatchery Road. After notifying dispatch to send a different unit to the original call, Engine 6 went to investigate the source of the smoke.

Firefighters then discovered a fire at a car dealership on the 2000 block of Fish Hatchery Road, MFD says. They found smoke coming from the garage doors.

While Engine 6 deployed hose lines, Engine 4 arrived to help contain the fire. High heat and thick smoke made it impossible for firefighters to access the fire from inside the building.
