WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) - What’s behind the rush to the altar at Watertown City Hall?

Usually, June is the busiest time of year at the clerk’s office. But September got off to quite the start.

During the first 5 business days of September, the clerk’s office issued 33 marriage licenses and performed 18 weddings.

During the same time last year, the office issued 13 licenses and did 12 weddings.

So why are so many people looking to tie the knot this month?

The clerk’s office thought the recent homecomings at Fort Drum may play a role in the uptick in the number of people saying “I do.”
