HENDERSON, Ky. (WEVV) — Farmers in Henderson County have begun harvesting, with some already in the fields and others preparing to start.

Dry conditions and a burn ban are adding pressure, turning this season into a unique mix of challenges and opportunities.

Matthew Scott, a farmer at Scott Farm, highlighted the impact of weather this season.

"We're starting a little later than usual. We had a wet spring so our planning was delayed some compared to usual," Scott said.

Scott is now focused on safely harvesting 3,000 acres of soybean and corn fields before dry conditions cause issues.

"With the dry conditions, obviously there's a risk of a fire. Our harvest machine has a lot of moving parts that can get hot and grain dust is especially flammable with the dry weather," said Scott.
