PRINCETON, Ind. (WEVV) — Indiana is joining a national effort this week to save lives by raising awareness about railroad safety. As part of Rail Safety Week, which runs through Sunday, local advocates are using videos, community events, and personal stories to spread the message: stay alert near train tracks.
Each year, more than 2,000 people across North America are killed or seriously injured in railroad-related incidents. In Indiana alone, over 100 lives are lost or permanently changed — often due to split-second decisions.
Indiana Operation Lifesaver, a nonprofit rail safety education organization, is leading the state’s outreach efforts this week.
In Princeton, a major intersection sees at least three trains pass through daily. Gibson County Sheriff Bruce Vanoven said the area req
