CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Lindsay Orr captured gold at the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation’s Masters World Championship last month in Las Vegas, earning a world title and a promotion to brown belt in the process.

Orr, who trains at Checkmat Charlotte under third-degree black belt Michael Allen, was promoted after her victory and became the fastest athlete in the school’s history to reach brown belt — in just 3 years, 11 months and 14 days.

Allen called Orr a “phenomenal athlete” and praised her for setting a new standard at the academy.

Apart from the competitiveness of the sport, Orr mentioned that BJJ offers so many different benefits, saying "number one, it's great for defense, especially for women. You feel like you have some of the skills you need if something was to happen."
