RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Two brothers, Arturo and Alder Marin-Sotelo, are set to appear in a Wake County courtroom Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.

The two are charged with the murder of Wake County deputy Ned Byrd in August 2022.

Deputy Byrd was killed in the line of duty in during a traffic stop in southeastern Wake County. Byrd was a 13-year veteran of law enforcement and was 48 years old at the time of his death.

About a week after Byrd's body was found next to his patrol car with multiple gunshot wounds, Arturo and Alder Marin-Sotelo were charged with his murder.

However, Alder was also facing a federal charge for possession of a firearm while living in the united states illegally. And while in a Virginia jail, awaiting sentencing, he escaped with the help of his sister to Mexico.
