NATIONWIDE -- This is National Voter Registration Day.

Thousands of community partners across the country worked together to make sure every American has a chance to register and vote.

Brian Miller is the executive director of nonprofit Vote.

He says it’s more important than ever for people to step up and have a say in shaping their communities because there is no such thing as an off-year.

"It really is a year of local impact. These elections have a significant impact on people’s lives whether its the mayoral race, the school board race, state legislative races. In a couple of states there are state with some state-wide races and or ballot referendums so there’s a lot happening.
