BESSEMER, Ala. ( WBRC ) - The Bessemer Planning and Zoning Committee voted Tuesday, Sept. 16, in favor of rezoning the controversial massive data center project being planned off of Rock Mountain Lake Road.

The rezoning request now heads to city council.

The committee received stiff opposition from the community over environmental and other concerns. The developer wants to change the zoning of the property from agricultural to industrial.

“The city of Bessemer doesn’t give a damn about the homeowners affected by this because we don’t vote in the city of Bessemer,” Ron Morgan said.

Morgan didn’t hold back after the Bessemer Planning and Zoning committee voted to send the proposed rezoning of the massive $14.9 billion hyperscale data center to the city council for a vote.
