ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A north Georgia police captain underwent surgery to fix a fractured nose on Tuesday after he was shot in the line of duty.
Capt. Brantley Worley with the McCaysville Police Department was shot in the throat while responding to a call on Sept. 12.
The surgery took place at a hospital in Chattanooga, where he was airlifted following the incident. Worley was released on Tuesday afternoon and received a “hero’s welcome” all the way back home.

A law enforcement procession ferried Worley from Chattanooga to McCaysville in Fannin County, then down to Cherokee County to drop him off at home in Canton.
