APEX, N.C. (WNCN) -- Going outside to play is such an important part of being a kid, but it can be a challenge for children fighting cancer. That's the case for 11-year-old Hollyn Lyon in Apex.

One segment at a time, helping hands pieced together a new playset for Hollyn. She fell ill earlier this year, visiting six doctors before finally being diagnosed with leukemia.

"I kept bringing her back because she kept getting she got mouth sores and I kept getting referred to other doctors," said Hollyn's mother, Rachel Lyon.

Rachel Lyon says her daughter just finished her second round of chemo and mostly stays home managing symptoms and medication.
