(WFSB) - Wildfire season in Connecticut is approaching.
The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection on Wednesday sought to remind people of that.
DEEP said the typical fall wildfire season runs from October through the first widespread snowfall.
During that time, the agency said dry weather and windy conditions, in combination with fallen leaves and increased sunlight reaching and warming the forest floor, can elevate the likelihood of a wildfire.
DEEP said that almost all wildfires are caused by humans and are therefore preventable.
The state saw record wildfire activity in 2024.
DEEP reported 605 fires that burned more than 500 acres. During those fires, eight buildings were destroyed, one firefighter died , and eight were hurt.
